I was a big fan of Kitty Powers' first game, Kitty Powers' Matchmaker, and got to know her through mutual friends. When I went part-time freelance, she asked me to help design the larger-scale follow up title, Love Life.
I contributed designs and detailed implementation docs for about 20 minigames which had to be "gamey" but also represent mundane, everyday relationship issues that the player could help out with. For example, a Battleship-like game that is actually about finding the right spot on someone's back to scratch to give them ultimate satisfaction, or a safe-cracking game that's actually about helping someone open a jar lid. In that way, there was definitely an considerable element of narrative design to it all too.
It was great fun, and I love how the game emulates procedural mundanity -- it's unlike anything else, that's for sure!
