Railgrade was published by The Irregular Corporation, which was the publishing sister company to Mediatonic. After launching Murder by Numbers, they asked me to do some consultancy work on Railgrade -- essentially, the solo developer had come up with the story and written the text himself, and they wanted someone with specialist knowledge to cast their eyes over the project.
Their main ask was for me to brush up the existing text, which I did -- more copy editing than anything. I also delivered a bunch of suggestions for how they could increase the narrative tension in the game, and also for how they could tweak a character to deliver a more relatable, nuanced person with whom which the player's relationship would change over the course of the game.
It was a small job, but a great example of how I can quickly identify new opportunities and highlight avenues you might have missed to squeeze even more feely-feely goodness out of your existing material.
Ugh, that was a very sales-y sentence. I apologise.
