The Good Life

Overview

The first thing you need to know about The Good Life is that it's a SWERY game.

Equal parts surreal, mad, irreverent and ridiculous, The Good Life is a debt-repayment life sim, set in a Japanese man's ideal of an English village. It was published by Mediatonic's sister publishing company The Irregular Corporation, who asked me to help with managing its English voiceover production.

That included:

  • Working with our VO studio partners SIDE to cast actors for the game
  • A lot of forensic examination of scripts and design docs to properly spec out character and cutscene requirements
  • Preparing VO scripts
  • Rewriting already translated lines to fit lipsync timings
  • Translating a lot of, let's say, hidden information in order to work out what anything was
  • Being on hand during all VO recordings to give context and information

This was my first time working with voiceover actors and I loved it.

Praise for The Good Life

"Voice acting only pipes in during the major story scenes, and is a highlight when it gets a chance to shine." - RPGamer
